inaugural balloon release

Behold, this photo marks a time lost and a time gained. This is witness to the inaugural half-century balloon release.
It signifies the loss of youth and the acquisition of  impending mortality. On this bright life-blossoming Sunday morning I silently release the last of my birthday party balloons, and as the smooth jute strings sift out of my hand, the gentle warm Lake Ontario breeze pushes them forth into the great beyond. A small tear surfaces at my eye as I reflect upon the 50 years lost at sea. The balloons slowly recede, their colours brilliant against the bluest of skies. We watch in silence for a few minutes, alone with our thoughts, but then get bored so we go inside and finish off the left-over birthday cake.
